Skin Deep

Your skin is the largest organ on your body. Everything that you put on your skin, will be absorbed into your blood stream (thats how transdermal patches work)

Most of the cosmetic products on the market are laden with toxic chemicals, many of which are known carcinogens, immunotoxins and endocrine disrupters.

Wait, what?

Does this mean that my favorite brand of soap is knowingly exposing me to poisons just so that I can smell like roses?

Worse still, the US government does not require health studies or pre-market testing of chemicals in personal care products. That’s right, its totally unregulated.

This means that we are exposing ourselves to all kinds of synthetic chemicals and pretending like it won’t have an impact on our bodies.

But don’t be a guinea pig, we know what happens when you ingest toxins. Your body absorbs all of the cosmetics, personal care products and cleaning chemicals into our blood stream where the liver has to process and then detoxify the body of these foreign materials. If the liver is overtaxed, the body will store toxins in fat cells where they will sit and slowly be reabsorbed over time.

Let’s set the record straight, your body does not need sodium laurel sulfate. It cannot use phthalates for nourishment. We know that the body does not need lead or aluminum but for some reason that is what you will find in many lipstick brands.

Have you ever read the ingredients on your toothpaste or shampoo or eyeshadow? Because when I took a closer look, I was horrified with what I found. Even some of the products I thought were “natural” had terrible ingredients that I would never want to ingest. Tom’s deodorant has ingredients that are linked to organ system toxicity. Sketch.

Unfortunately, there is no brand that you can blindly trust, and if there was one, it definitely wouldn’t be Crest or Revlon or Secret or Pantene. Fortunately, there is a resource out there that can help us understand what we are putting on and in our bodies.

Environmental Working Group has been compiling data on the chemistry and health impacts of pretty much every product out there so that you don’t have to be a scientist to understand whether your toothpaste is silently contributing to your crohn’s disease or eczema.

I urge you to check it out. Not all products are created equal.

Find out about your personal care routine and get clean by removing or replacing the toxic chemicals that you use to get “clean.”

In general, I try not to put anything on my skin that I wouldn’t want to ingest.

That’s why we make skincare products with food-grade ingredients. Try some today and feel what its like to lather yourself in luscious products that are good enough to eat.
